Fulmer to Step Down

In a move that should surprise no one, UT and HC Phil Fulmer have reached an agreement and Fulmer will not be back next year.

I'm curious to know what is Fulmer's next move.

Head coach at a smaller school? NFL assistant? TV talking head?

He's in sort of a weird situation. Sort of reminds me of R.C. Slocum when he was forced out of A&M.

Can you imagine Fulmer at another school? I can't. He's poured his adult life into the University of Tennessee. That said, it was definitely time for a split. I'm glad that the parting is being handled in a classy way. I still think they're bowling at the end of the season, so he'll go out with a bang. Or as big a bang as you can have at the Liberty Bowl.

Right. I can't imagine Fulmer going anywhere else either. And he'd be an odd fit as an assistant too.

I think, with R.C. Slocum for instance, they found him a cushy job within Texas A&M's administration and he pretty much spends his days charting out golf courses or something.

No way he's an assistant anywhere in the college game. And, for all he's done in his career, I don't really think he's a hot commodity in the coaching carousel right now, i.e. I don't see Clemson or Washington or any other program needing a new coach next year making a run at Fulmer.

If I were in his shoes, I'd lay low for at least a season or two and work on my short game.
