So much for improved basketball by Kentucky. THAT was just an ass whoopin'. No other way to describe it. UK's worst SEC loss ever and worst overall loss since 1989. 11 points and 12 turnovers at half time? Wow. Maybe Vandy can play defense. What a way to open up a 4-game homestand that will - for all intents and purposes - determine their placement in the East.
Looking at the numbers, not hard to see where UK got beat... it's everywhere. VU averaged nearly twice as many points per possession (1.3 to .7), forced UK into turnovers on nearly 1/4 of their possessions (23.8%) and rode the strength of a 20/6 assist/turnover ratio to a ridiculous 131.0 efficiency rating.

Midweek Box Scores, Links, and a Youtubitude
Bama continues to shoot themselves in the foot in close games from the foul line, this time hitting just 52.9% of their shots from the stripe.
Great win by Kentucky, which played with out Meeks and Bradley. Amazing that the game was so close when you consider that UK shot 66.7% from the floor, 60 on 3s, and outrebounded AU by 7.AU forced 24 ‘Cat turnovers though, including 14 steals.
Here’s a good article about this young Florida team that is obviously still trying to find itself on the road in conference. UT blew this game open late on the strength of 44.8% 3s and a ridiculous 27/9 Assist/TO ratio. Meanwhile, UF turned it over 24 times.
Nothing really of note in the Vandy/UGA game. More of note would ANOTHER UGA player running afoul of the law. By the end of this season, UGA may be having open tryouts in the Rec center just to play a full roster…

save Auburn from a BAD loss last night
A look at the box scores and key stats from this week’s SEC action…
* Tennessee @ Alabama
Alabama continued its hot shooting from the floor (50%) but apparently decided to not guard the perimeter (UT had 12 3s) or rebound the ball. With the girth the Tide big men have, there’s no excuse for ‘Bama being outrebounded by the Vols. The Tide’s poor FT shooting loomed large again, as they hit less than 60%.
* Mississippi State @ Auburn
The SEC West stays wide open thanks to a resounding Hog victory last night. Arkansas forced the Bulldogs into a horrid 5/22 Assist/Turnover ratio. And though they hit just 36.1% of their FGs, they hit 83.3% of their FTs (see how that works Bama) and crashed the glass to dominate MSU.
* Vanderbilt @ Ole Miss
Vandy’s road woes continued, as they shot just 34.9% from the floor and continued to settle for 3s, despite a cold shooting night (10-30). Only getting to the FT line 4 times against a team without its best post defender and foul-prone big men is inexcusable, particularly when this was as close to a must-win as a game can be this early in the season.
* LSU @ Auburn
I won’t even get into how BAD a loss this is for Auburn. I will ask how it’s even possible to lose a home game to a team like LSU when you shoot 50.9% from the floor, 43.5% from the arc, 93.3% from the FT line and commit less than 10 turnovers. This was apparently the perfect balance of mediocrity on both sides of the court.
* Georgia @ South Carolina
Great win for South Carolina who probably thought they would stand no chance with Devan Downey struggling like he did. But when your opponent shoots 14.8% from the arc, it makes up for one player’s struggles. Seriously though, 4-27 on 3s? Really? Get the ball inside.

A closer look at the action form last weekend with the help of some nifty widgets from StatSheet.com.
*Vandy @ Florida
The Gators dominated the ‘Dores for the majority of this game, fueled by a sparkling 26/10 Assist/Turnover ratio. It didn’t help that Vandy turned the ball over 16 times and 7 of those were Gator steals.
*Georgia @ Tennessee
It’s safe to say the Vols were shooting well in this one, turning in ridiculous shooting percentages from the floor (57.1%) and the arc (45%). Bruce Pearl couldn’t have been happy with the 12-27 (44.4%) effort from the FT line though. But with the ‘Dawgs shooting 18.2% from the arc and turning the ball over 21 times, it really didn’t matter.
*South Carolina @ Kentucky
This was the only relatively close game of the weekend. The most glaring differential here is FTs shot – UK 23, USC 2. A 16-point differential from the line in an 8 point game. The ‘Cats also stroked it from the floor (51%) and the arc (61.5%).
*Ole Miss @ Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are finally starting to play the way everyone thought they would. They shot a ridiculous 56.7% from the floor and blocked 8 Rebel shots. Ole Miss struggled everywhere, but especially from the arc, hitting just 4-17 3s (23.5%)
*Arkansas @ LSU
The Hogs finally figured out how to win on the road: hit 10-15 3s (66.7%) and hold your opponent to 29% (20-69) from the floor. The Tigers did themselves no favors from the arc either, hitting 5-26 (19.2%). To further illustrate how bad LSU is at this point, the Hogs had an 8/17 Assist/Turnover ratio and still won by 16.
*Auburn @ Alabama
Perhaps the most ridiculous team stat of the weekend is Alabama’s 19-4 Assist/Turnover ratio. Playing without a true PG, the Tide showed what they’re capable of, shooting 53.7% from the floor and 48% from the arc. Auburn somehow managed to shoot 50% from the floor and lose by 20. Go figure.
