Fulmer to Step Down

In a move that should surprise no one, UT and HC Phil Fulmer have reached an agreement and Fulmer will not be back next year.

Head coach at a smaller school? NFL assistant? TV talking head?

The Dead Guy said...: Can you imagine Fulmer at another school? I can't. He's poured his adult life into the University of Tennessee. That said, it was definitely time for a split. I'm glad that the parting is being handled in a classy way. I still think they're bowling at the end of the season, so he'll go out with a bang. I think, with R.C. Slocum for instance, they found him a cushy job within Texas A&M's administration and he pretty much spends his days charting out golf courses or something.; November 3, 2008 at 2:58 PM

And, for all he's done in his career, I don't really think he's a hot commodity in the coaching carousel right now, i.e. I don't see Clemson or Washington or any other program needing a new coach next year making a run at Fulmer.
