Bowl Predictions: Week 7

Now that we're basically halfway through the regular season, I think intelligible Bowl Predictions can be made. It's such a crap shoot in the early season, that until everybody has played a few games in conference, I won't even look at them myself.

Anyway, here's the Bowl Predictions from ESPN, CBS Sportsline, and Fox Sports. They all agree that LSU will be in the BCS Championship Game and that Florida will join them in the BCS in the Sugar Bowl. I still think South Carolina wins the East and takes that Sugar Bowl spot, but we'll see...

Let's just act like UF wins the east, does that mean they beat LSU and a 1 loss LSU plays for the national title? I would think the coaches or computers would ding them losing in the last week of the season and put a 1 loss OSU vs a 1 loss OU or pac 10 team. If LSU goes undefeated that means UF will have at least 3 losses, and I don't see them getting a BCS at large bid with all the 1 loss teams.

Is everyone seeing something that I am obviously missing?

On the CBS picks, they include a note that says: "With its other selection, (The Sugar Bowl) will be looking to take a team from the SEC and Florida will be choice, assuming it does not play in the SEC title game and doesn't lose the rest of the year."

If UF doesn't lose again, but doesn't win the East, that means that either UT wins out and wins the East or USC loses only to UF the rest of the regular season and wins the East. LSU will beat either UT or USC in the SECCG. With UF being the defending NC, and traveling as well as they do, the Sugar would presumably take them over a Vol or Gamecock team with a season-ending loss. UF would have beaten both straight up in the regular season as well.

I still believe that USC beats Florida on 11/10 and this whole argument is moot.

If USC loses to UF, then the tie break to UF, because they will have 2 losses like UF, but one of those losses will be in the division and to UF. I keep forgetting UT only lost to UF. I agree that USC beats UF on 11/10 so it doesn't matter. Tebow will need to cry again and get another cell phone. The more I look at it the more it looks like CBS will drop the tailgate party in favor of UT vs USC since that in all likelihood will determine the winner of the SEC east. Great site, I enjoy hearing your thoughts.

My mistake... so the only way Florida doesn't lose the rest of the season and doesn't win the East is if Tennessee runs the table. Tennessee would then have three losses - Cal, Florida, and LSU (in the SECCG) - and wouldn't be as appealing as a 2-loss, defending NC Florida team that beat them by nearly 40 points.

Thanks for the feedback. Debating subjective matter is just one of the many things that makes SEC Football the best in the country.
